Inline engines and everything you need to know about them

When it comes to what’s under the hood of your Clermont Toyota car, it pays to know what kind of engine you’re working with, so you know the capabilities of your vehicle. Most drivers are familiar with engine types like a 4-cylinder, V6, or V8. While these are the most common types of engines, the Toyota Supra is returning and it houses a six-cylinder inline engine. You may be wondering exactly is an inline engine? Lucky for you, Toyota of Clermont is here with a guide to explain what it is before the Supra gets here.

The inline engine, a Clermont Toyota Supra essential

Toyota doesn’t commonly use inline engines in their main production vehicles, but with the reintroduction of the Clermont Toyota Supra set to release later this year it’s coming back! So, what makes an inline engine so special?
  • Inline engines align their cylinders in a straight line rather than a typical V configuration.
  • They’re inherently balanced and more fuel-efficient due to their balance and piston firing order.
  • But straight engines are larger than a typical V configured engine and require more room in the engine compartment due to their shape.
  • They can be slanted to maximize space, but they come at a higher price tag than a V engine.

In the engine world, one Clermont Toyota inline engine that’s particularly legendary is the Toyota 2JZ-GTE engine. This marvel of machinery was built first into the 1991 Toyota Aristo V and then the Toyota Supra RZ. As a first rendition, this engine was specified to have 280 horsepower and was then upgraded to have 320 horsepower in 1993. For a stock engine, that’s pretty impressive. But, the piece de resistance for this engine is its ability to achieve over 1,000 or more horsepower with just a few modifications.
Clermont Toyota straight engines are available in several different sizes, like straight four, six, eight, and even five.

Where the new Clermont Toyota Supra comes in

Set to release this year, the 2020 Toyota GR Supra will be at Toyota of Clermont soon and will use a straight six engine. In a collaboration with BMW, the engine is set to sport a powerful 335 horsepower and hit a 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds. While this engine will be more computerized and therefor won’t be as customizable as the legendary 2JZ-GTE engine, we think this engine still packs a punch and Supra fans will be pleased with its performance features.

The exterior of this new Toyota sportscar is designed after the iconic Toyota FT-1 concept. It features clean lines and a bubble-top design to allow for greater aerodynamics. The interior is also designed to enclose the driver in a cock-pit style seat and new modern and luxurious features.
