Breaking News About the New Toyota 86

When it comes to sport, Toyota knows how to draw a crowd. On the North American lineup we have the immensely popular and iconic Toyota Supra next to the unique and mighty might 86. Both vehicles provide something different for drivers that get behind the wheel and make the perfect dynamic duo. While we don't know what the third musketeer in Toyota's triumvirate will be (Celica or MR2 revival, hopefully), we have some exciting news regarding the current new Toyota 86. Check out the latest news from us at Toyota of Clermont!

Production for New Toyota 86 Coming to an End

In Toyota's lineup the 86 is truly a unique offering. This low to the ground, no frills boxer engine sports car is a fan favorite. While the current generation 86 is a hot ticket item for many drivers, Toyota is beginning to cease production and factory orders. While you might be breaking out in a panic sweat right now, we assure you that this is a good thing.

While you wait for the news regarding the new Toyota 86, let's refresh ourselves on the backstory of this iconic Clermont Toyota car:

  • The Toyota 86 is and has always been a collaborative vehicle between Toyota and Subaru. On Subaru's lineup the 86 is branded the BRZ. It was originally and continues to be assembled at the Subaru Gunma plant in Japan.
  • The 86's debut was in 2011 but was originally part of Toyota's offshoot Scion lineup. It's name was the FRS (RIP Scion).
  • The Subaru BRZ and Clermont Toyota 86 are identical twins with only badging differing them.
  • For excellent cornering and vehicle roll, the boxer engine of the 86 is placed low and back. This helps it achieve a weight distribution of 53% in the front and 47% in the rear.
  • The 86 can reach a top speed of 145 mph and an estimated 0-60 mph time of 6.0-6.2 seconds.
  • The Toyota 86 derives its name from its production code, 086A

How is This Not Bad News?

Like we said, there's no reason to panic. The new Toyota 86 is not being retired and it's not going anywhere. The current model generation is ceasing production and orders will no longer be processed and that means something new is coming. Auto manufacturers do this quite often to make room for new models on their assembly lines and in dealerships.

While we don't know exactly when a new Toyota 86 will be coming, we're super excited and will keep you updated as soon as we know!
