By now you've probably heard word that Toyota finally released the concept for their new electric car, the bZ4X! This RAV4-sized battery powered EV is shaping up to be quite a launching point for Toyota's overall dive into the battery powered world and we're thrilled that it's coming to Toyota of Clermont one day soon! The EV SUV was definitely the highlight of Toyota's recent announcement, so it's understandable if you missed a few other juicy tidbits in there.
Like, for example, that Toyota plans on released about 70 different electrified models by 2025, that 15 of those models will be BEVs, and seven of those 15 will have the Beyond Zero (bZ) moniker attached. Oh, and did we mention that Toyota plans on bringing both hybrid and BEV powertrains to it's pickup truck segment? Yes, all that was confirmed and we're over the moon. But, what can we expect from an electric car pickup like the Tundra and/or Tacoma? Well, we at Toyota of Clermont have some thoughts.
An Electrified Pickup. Can You Dig It?
Out of all the things on Toyota's
lineup to electrify, the Clermont Tacoma and Tundra were probably the last ones one would consider to make as an electric car. But, Toyota is set on producing electrified versions of both these models in the near future and a world of possibilities has opened. Believe it or not, there are several auto manufacturers out there doing some incredible things in the EV market when it comes to electric pickups. So, what should we expect from an electrified Tundra and/or Tacoma?
Smaller Engines, but More Power
The underside of the hood of the Tacoma and Tundra will show you power, but also age. The engines in the current pickups on Toyota's lineup are older and they drink fuel as such. Naturally, bringing hybrid or electric car
BEV drivetrain to the table will vastly improve the fuel consumption (or eliminate it entirely) from the Clermont pickup lineup. By using electric motors on a pickup, tremendous power and speed can be achieved and there's no reason to believe Toyota will fall short on this.
The engines will likely be swapped for smaller and possibly turbo-charged models. But, this encourages fuel sipping versus gulping from our pickup friends.
Off-Roading is Here to Stay
Going electric doesn't mean that the Tundra and Tacoma will lose any amount of their capability. On the contrary, electrification will give each of the pickup trucks a more environmentally friendly stance, better power ratings, and probably a few new bells and whistles. Several new electric car pickups that are due to be released feature things like adjustable clearance height, perpendicular crawling, improved clearance cameras and monitoring, and more.
A New Exterior Design
The current generations of the Orlando Toyota Tundra and Tacoma are both loved by fans far and wide, but that doesn't mean that they aren't due for a much needed change. For the Toyota Tundra, it's only in its 2nd generation and has received very few design upgrades to keep things fresh. The Tacoma follows a very similar route. With a total overhaul in drivetrain, engine types, and fueling type, it's likely that the Tundra and Tacoma will be drastically redesigned as part of their shift into the future.
