What is a car suspension?

The car suspension system’s job is to maximize the friction between the tires and road surfaces so that the steering stability provides safety and comfort. If you have wanted to imagine going on a bumpy road, without a suspension, just imagine you’re in a very shaky simulator. And for that very reason, we have car suspensions. Thank you, Alanson Brush (the man who created the first car suspension after having a car accident).

Components of your car suspension

  1. Springs: Springs help your car handle irregular road surfaces and support extra weight in your car. They also keep your Clermont Toyota car at one standard height. There are three types of springs – coil, leaf, and torsion bars.

    1. Dampers: Dampers help absorb the energy from the springs so they don’t continue to bounce. Think about it – if you go over a bump, the springs bounce and will continue to bounce unless something absorbs that energy. Enter your dampers. Dampers include shock absorbers, struts, and sway bars.

  2. Rods: These are metal links connected to different aspects of the car suspension system.

  3. Struts: Struts are similar to shock absorbers and serve a similar function, but are mounted inside of a coil spring. We go

  4. Wheels: The wheels work with your suspension to make your Clermont Toyota move.

  5. Frame: The frame carries the entire suspension weight to keep all the parts connected and working correctly.

  6. Steering system: The steering system is a part of your Clermont Toyota’s suspension system that is responsible for holding your car together if the suspension fails. The steering and suspension systems work together to make the wheels and tires turn and drive.

  7. Joints, bearing, and bushings: These elements allow for sliding and twisting from your Clermont Toyota that help your suspension system work smoothly.

  8. Shock absorbers: The shock absorbers work with the springs to absorb the shock of driving on the road. This happens so it can reduce the magnitude of the vibrations by converting this kinetic energy into thermal energy, which is then dissipated by hydraulic fluid. If your suspension didn’t have shock absorbers, your Clermont Toyota would bounce up and down each time you went over rough terrain.

  9. Anti-sway bars: Also known as sway bars, these metal rods join opposing car suspension systems to provide more stability and keep your car level even on bumpy surfaces.

What are struts and shocks, exactly?

To understand the two major components, of your Clermont Toyota car suspension, we’re going to go a little more detailed in the descriptions of struts and shock absorbers. Yes, all parts are important, but these two play a big role in keeping you and your passengers safe and comfortable on the road.

Struts, on the other hand, combine a shock and spring assembly in one unit. These heavy-duty parts are attached to the wheels and serve the purpose of not only softening the ride but also holding the tire in place and providing

If these parts start having defects, you can experience major issues in your Clermont Toyota. Bad shocks and struts can lead to other parts failing, a broken steering system, or a blown-out tire. Here are some signs that your shocks and struts are going bad”

  • Instability at highway speeds (70 mph+)

  • The vehicle “tips” to one side when you’re making turns

  • When you hit the brakes hard, the front end of your car dips down significantly

  • Contrastingly, when you hit the gas hard, the back end of your car dips down significantly

  • Your tires bounce excessively after hitting a bump in the road

  • Your tires wearing unevenly because they’re bouncing on the road a lot

  • You find leaking fluid on the outside of the shocks or struts

Shocks, or shock absorbers, are located behind your tires and are mounted next to the springs. They have one job: to stop the car from bouncing as you drive down the road.

Suspension warning signs

If you ever feel clunking noises when hitting a bump, bumpy ride, drifting or pulling to one side when turning corners, difficulty steering, unusually bumpy rides, or even one of the sides of the car sits lower than the other side, this is an indicator of a warning sign for your car suspension.
