Hybrid Pickup Trucks Could Be Here Sooner Than You Think

When it comes to new technology, the automotive industry is always on the brink of a new discovery that will change the way we drive until the next big thing comes around. One way the automotive industry continues to evolve is in the form of more fuel efficient technology and more renewable sources of fuel. In fact, Toyota is actively working on using hydrogen fuel cells to power their vehicles. However, Toyota is continuing to make great strides with their hybrid and EV powered Clermont Toyota vehicles with enhancements in performance and bringing the technology to even more models than ever thought possible. If you can believe it, Toyota is currently interested in bringing hybrid and EV technology to more than just sedans and SUVs. The next step is developing hybrid pickup trucks and we have some initial details you're sure to be interested in!

Hybrid Pickup Trucks Coming Soon

The Clermont Toyota Prius began Toyota's long road of hybrid technology advancement and since then the brand manufactures hybrid models for the Corolla, Avalon, Highlander, RAV4, and Camry. So, why not a hybrid pickup truck? Well, they may be arriving to Toyota of Clermont before you know it in the form of hybrid Tacomas and even Tundras.

While this sounds idealistic and great, you might be wondering how it's even possible to develop a hybrid pickup truck. After all, those vehicles have been created to run on internal combustion gasoline and diesel engines since their creation to achieve maximum power for towing and hauling. But, finding the power in a hybrid vehicle isn't the issue anymore. The 2019 Toyota RAV4 is a testament to this at its hybrid model sports more horsepower, at 219, than its internal combustion counterpart, at 203. Not only that, but the new Clermont Toyota Prius is even being engineered with AWD function. Power? Check. Capability? Check.

Again, this all sounds possible and great, but Toyota is keeping their hybrid pickup truck project under wraps and we don't have many details. But, if history is a good judge for the future (it usually is), we know that Toyota has pursued the idea of a hybrid truck before and will likely commit to the concept now that the technology has evolved. One Toyota concept hybrid pickup truck, the A-BAT was introduced in 2007 as a sub-compact truck. The concept vehicle used Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive System and a four-cylinder engine for better fuel-efficiency with moderate levels of capability. It even had an extendable cargo bed and could seat up to four passengers.

The concept was said to be in production, but it was likely abandoned as we haven't heard much on it since 2008. However, that doesn't mean we should lose hope for seeing a hybrid pickup truck soon. The most difficult part will be combining the engineering to preserve the towing capacity of the Toyota Tacoma and Tundra. Once Toyota's engineers can pull that off, we'll likely see a hybrid truck on our lot!
