Car maintenance to do before your next road trip

Safety is our main concern here at Toyota of Clermont, so when it comes to you preparing your vehicle for your next road trip, we want to help! We’ve put together a list of the 6 most important maintenance tips to consider checking before your long drive.

1. The Tires
When was the last time you checked your car’s tire pressure and tread? Both are extremely important to keep up with for everyday driving and longer drives. Ensure each tire’s PSI is at the recommended level according to your car’s manual. A trick to checking the tread on your tires is to take a penny and stick it in various grooves, Lincoln’s head upside down. If the top of his head is fully visible, this means your tires are worn and need to be replaced. If his head is partially covered by the tire, you should be good to go for a while. Also, consider having your tires rotated before the trip, if it’s been a while since the last time they were switched.

2. The brakes
Brake check! For your safety, make sure your brakes are in good working order. If you’re unsure of how to check them yourself, stop by our Clermont Toyota service center. We’d be happy to look them over and replace the pads and/or routers as needed!

3. The fluids
Getting your fluids topped off or changed completely is so important. Oil, power steering, brakes, transmission, and windshield fluids all work to keep your vehicle running properly, so be sure not to neglect this side of maintenance before your next road trip. Have our Clermont Toyota specialists take care of these for you!

4. The cleanliness
If you don’t want to shell out the money to get your car professionally detailed, set aside some time before your road trip to clean it yourself. Driving in a cluttered car can add to the stresses of a long trip, so consider tossing the wrappers and water bottles living on your car floor, vacuum out the dirt, wipe down the console and dashboard, and stick a small trash receptacle in there to make keeping up with your mess on the trip a breeze.

5. The wipers
Consider the state of your windshield wipers, both front and rear. If it’s been some time since they were last replaced, you may want to do so again before taking off. It’s unsafe to drive in the rain with worn out windshield wipers. As stated before, be sure to top off your wiper fluid to make it easier to keep your windshield free of dirt and obstructions.

6. The A/C
Last, but not least━tune up your air conditioning unit. Especially on summer trips or when you’re driving through climates similar to Clermont, A/C is necessary. You don’t want to be caught with a broken air conditioner. Sweaty, wind blown road trips are no fun.
