Seeing your check engine light come on your dashboard can be an alarming thing. The unknown of what may be happening under the hood could be a cause for concern. We at Toyota of Clermont want you to know you’re not alone in this stressful moment. We are here to help! Check out this list of five reasons that dreaded light may have blinked on.
1. Gas cap
First thing’s first, before you stress out unnecessarily: check your gas cap. There is a simple, inexpensive solution to this problem. We’re all on the go and sometimes forgetting to replace the gas cap or ensuring it’s tightened enough just slips our mind. No big deal. Your check engine light is just telling you that there is a lack of pressure in the fuel chamber, which may affect your car’s ability to perform well. This is the best case scenario!
2. Mass airflow sensor
Things start to get a bit pricey if it’s an issue with your mass airflow sensor. This part works to monitor the engine’s air intake to determine the right amount of fuel and oxygen the car needs to operate. You will want to contact one of our Clermont Toyota specialists to look at this for you before it causes further damage to the car’s O2 sensor, spark plugs, and catalytic converter.
3. O2 sensor
This part is essential to regulating the amount of unburned fuel in your car’s system. If your O2 sensor has gone bad, you will most likely have started noticing a reduction in your car’s fuel efficiency. To avoid causing problems to the spark plugs or catalytic converter, be sure to get your O2 sensor checked out as soon as possible.
4. Spark plugs
The spark plugs are what makes the car run. The sparks are used to ignite the fuel in the system to make the engine start. The longer you ignore fixing the spark plugs, the more likely it will be for the catalytic converter to become damaged. Our Clermont Toyota specialists would be happy to replace those for you in a jiffy!
5. Catalytic converter
If your check engine light blinks on, it could be from your catalytic converter going bad. This costly concern should be fixed immediately. You may notice your car’s fuel economy is shot or the vehicle’s overall performance hasn’t been up to par. That is because the catalytic converter is the part that creates carbon dioxide from the harmful carbon monoxide fumes your car puts out. Contact our Clermont service center now, if you think your vehicle needs a new catalytic converter.
