Do you have questions when it comes to your car care? Most people do - owning and operating a car is one thing, but maintaining and servicing it are entirely another. It can be daunting to try and figure out what's going on under the hood, which is why our Clermont auto service techs have taken the time to address 5 common car care questions they get in our service drive. Check out the answers below!
Let our Clermont auto service techs answer your questions
Question 1: I need a new timing belt. Can I hold off on the repair?Nope. Sorry - we know that's not what you want to hear. But the timing belt plays an essential part in maintaining the timing of your engine. If it breaks completely, it can do serious, costly damage to the rest of the engine, leaving you in a bad spot. This car care is expensive because it requires so much labor (the engine basically has to be taken apart and put back together), but it's necessary and you don't ever way to delay scheduling it.
Question 2: Which takes priority - my owner's manual, my auto service tech, or my instrument panel?
You should listen to the above experts in this order: instrument panel, service tech, owner's manual. Your instrument panel is your direct line to what's going on under the hood, so if you see your dashboard lights come on or that needle swing into the red, it's time to schedule car care at Toyota of Clermont. Next comes your service tech, as they can inspect your car from bumper to bumper and diagnose any issues they see. Finally, listen to your owner's manual last. It doesn't take into account extraneous factors like weather, driving habits, etc. - it really only applies to the make and model of your vehicle.
Question 3: Can I swap back and forth between synthetic and conventional motor oil?
Absolutely - unless your car specifically calls for synthetic oil. Some drivers prefer synthetic oil because it lasts longer, burns cleaner, and might improve your car's performance, but you can use either oil for your oil change and still hit the road safely and efficiently. Ask our car care specialists at Toyota of Clermont which one they recommend.
Question 4: Do I need to switch out my all-season tires in the winter?
Short answer, no - not if you live here in Clermont or Central Florida in general. All-season tires are fine for the weather we deal with on a daily basis since we don't see harsh winters. If you're heading into an area of the country where they see a lot of snow and ice, consider swapping your tires for winter tires. They're built to be more durable and withstand extreme weather as well as offer better traction when the road is slick and slushy.
Question 5: Can I use premium fuel for better fuel efficiency?
No. Sorry! You don't need to use premium fuel unless your car calls for premium fuel. Filling the tank with this more expensive gas won't improve fuel efficiency or performance - in fact, it won't do anything but empty your bank account faster. Don't waste your money!
