Quick car hacks that you need to know

Car ownership can be a handful, we know. It requires a fair amount of responsibility as well as a chunk of your budget to keep your Clermont Toyota in the best shape possible (and to keep its value high so you can make a buck if you decide to sell it down the road). That's why here at Toyota of Clermont, we love car hacks - ways to make car ownership and operation as easy as possible. Check out a few of our latest!

Toyota of Clermont tips

Six car hacks for every car owner

Car hack #1: Go the speed limit.

It doesn't really sound like a hack, but it is. A lot of drivers tend to put the pedal to the metal when they're in a hurry, hoping that speeding will get them to their final destination more quickly. However, green lights are timed in accordance with the speed limit, meaning that if you stick to the posted speed, you *should* be able to hit all the green lights, making your way to your destination faster. (Plus, you won't get pulled over.)

Car hack #2: Find your car quickly in the parking lot.

Are you guilty of always forgetting where you park? Same. Make it easy on yourself. If you can remember, take a picture of the row number or an identifying landmark (light pole, tree, etc.). You can also put a brightly colored object in one of the windows of your Clermont Toyota to make it stand out from the sea of cars around it.

Car hack #3: Get rid of small scratches DIY style.

Do you have small but unsightly scratches on your ride? Get rid of them without having to shell out - use nail polish. It sounds weird, but for small scratches, it works. Plus, nail polish comes in so many colors that it shouldn't be difficult to find a match for your ride. Just remember, it's a temporary fix and won't last long term.

Car hack #4: Unlock your door manually.

Having key fob issues? You can still unlock and start your car manually. Your key fob has a mechanical key hidden within it, and your door handles on your car should have a piece on the end that pops off to reveal a mechanical lock.

Car hack #5: Embrace the slime.

Slime is a parent's nightmare and we get it... but it can also be put to use. Use your kids' slime to clean cracks and crevices in your car that you'd otherwise have to vacuum. It's great at picking up dirt and debris; just make sure you toss the slime after you use it to clean.

Car hack #6: Don't let your wipers freeze.

We know, we know - it's Florida. But if you head north into snow at any point, you can protect your wipers when you park with a simple hack. Put socks on them! This will prevent them from freezing to your windshield and damaging the rubber on the blades.
