Winter is coming... sort of. We don't get too harsh of winter weather here in Clermont, but we do get little bouts of cold weather that - believe it or not - can negatively impact your drive time if you're not prepared for them. While we don't get snow, ice, sleet, or extremely cold temperatures, we do see weather that you need to prep your car for, and our Clermont auto service techs are here. Check out this quick guide to driving in winter in Florida!
Four ways to prepare your Toyota for Florida winter
Tip #1: Maintain your battery.
Despite the fact that it doesn't get insanely cold here, the cold weather we do see can still affect your battery when you're driving in winter in Florida, especially if your car battery isn't in the best shape to begin with. Let our Clermont car care techs take a look under the hood. They can inspect your car's battery for any swelling or leaks, test the voltage, and also check the terminals and connections to make sure it can all handle the cold this winter.
Tip #2: Test your heater and defroster BEFORE winter arrives.
You don't want to be stuck with a broken defroster and heater when the cold weather actually arrives, so prep your Clermont Toyota beforehand. Test your heater and defroster regularly to ensure they're both in good shape, and if you notice any issues take care of it ASAP rather than waiting for cold weather to come knocking.
Tip #3: Inspect your tires.
No, we don't see snow or ice or sleet here (to be fair, we have seen the "icy roads" light turn on in our cars a handful of times). However, did you know that cold weather can actually lower your tires' PSI? Cold weather makes the air denser, so your tires can actually lose a little pressure when the temps drop (that's why you might see your tire pressure warning light on in the morning, but it's turned off by the afternoon). Check your tire pressure and also take a look at the general condition of your tires to ensure they're in good shape (no bulging, no blisters, no sidewall separation, and enough tread). If you notice any issues with your car tires or have questions about how they'll handle driving in winter, bring your ride to Toyota of Clermont.
Tip #4: Take a look at your windshield wiper blades.
A long, hot summer can do a number on your windshield wipers; the sun can dry out the rubber on the blades, causing it to crack and tear. Inspect your windshield wipers before winter arrives because remember - with almost every cold front that we get, we see a day or two of rain ahead of it. You want your wipers to completely clear your windshield of water - no streaks, smears, or weird noises. If you think you need new wiper bladers to tackle driving in winter, Toyota of Clermont's parts store can set you up.
