When you own a car, you probably find yourself asking "how often should I" questions periodically. How often should you get your tires changed? How often should you get an oil change? Tuneups? A/C and heater service? It can be a lot to keep track of, but Toyota of Clermont is here to help. We've got a quick guide to the most common "how often should I" questions - check it out.
How often should you be scheduling these types of car care?
How often should you check and change your oil?
- Checking oil: How often should you check the oil? Our Clermont car care specialists recommend checking your oil once a month to make sure that it's clean and that your car has enough of it. You should also add this car care to your to-do list before you take a long road trip or for extended periods of time.
- Changing oil: What about oil changes? They're critical for performance, so you want to ensure you stick to a schedule. How often you need oil changes depends on the type of motor oil you're using and what your owner's manual recommends. If you're using conventional motor oil, you'll need this car care every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. If you're using synthetic motor oil, you can typically go 5,000 to 10,000 miles between oil changes. As far as mileage or time, see what your owner's manual recommends (our Clermont car care techs can also give you advice).
How often should you check and rotate your tires?
- Checking tires: You should check your tires' condition every day when you get in your car (just take a lap around your vehicle so you can spot problems like bulges, blisters, low tread, or flat tires). You should check your car tire pressure every 2-4 weeks to ensure they're properly inflated, and if they look low or your tire pressure warning light comes on.
- Rotating tires: Your tires need to be rotated every 5,000 miles. This will promote even wear on your tires and make them last longer as well as offer a better performance overall for your car.
How often should you get brake service?
- You'll need brake service for your car at Toyota of Clermont every 20,000 miles or so. However, always be on the lookout for issues with your brakes like squealing, grinding, or loss of braking power, and schedule service if you notice any of these issues.
How often should you get a multi-point inspection?
- Multi-point inspections never hurt, especially when they're free. Every time you visit Toyota of Clermont's car care center, our techs will perform a complimentary multi-point inspection to make sure no issues are arising that need to be dealt with.
How often should I get a tune-up?
- There's no black-and-white answer to this car care question. It just depends on your car's make and model. New cars with electronic ignitions don't need tune-ups very often. However, if you have an older car you'll need a tune-up every 45,000 to 60,000 miles to ensure your engine is in good shape.
